PHOTOKINA - Where to find 3D?
3D-News Posted: Tuesday, September 20, 2016 (8:34 UTC) | Posted By: Webmaster

Last modified (6th update): September 21st, 12.19 pm (local time, Cologne)

Every two years there is one focal point in the sector: Photokina, the world's leading imaging fair. Photokina brings together the industry, trade, professional users and end consumers with a passion for photography — in a way no other event can match. Be sure you don't miss the world's most important platform for placing orders, gathering information and enjoying exciting experiences — from September 20 to 25, 2016 in Cologne, Germany.

Stereoscopy.com will be at Photokina for the whole week, looking for 3D-related products. This page will be updated regularly - so check back at least daily.

If you are planning to come to Photokina in Cologne, Germany, this page will give you a quick overview of some of the companies offering stereoscopic products and/or services:

Hall 2.12 / Booth A030: Brilliant Photo Group Pte, Ltd.
A silicon phone-cover with bult-in stereo viewer is available from this Singapore-based company. The two lenses are in a fold-out silicone tube - but unfortunately, the lenses are too close to the screen for a sharp focus for older users.

Hall 2.2 / Booth B011/C012: Epson
For professional Augmented Reality applications, Epson offers the Moverio Pro BT-2000 headeset. It will also play-back side-by-side 3D files on a 518,400 dot display.

Hall 2.2 / Booth B013/C014: Carl Zeiss AG
Carl Zeiss AG presents the VR ONE Plus, an upgraded version of the company's award-winning VR ONE virtual reality headset.

"The VR landscape has changed significantly since we launched the VR ONE in 2014," said Franz Troppenhagen, Senior Product Manager at ZEISS. "The new VR ONE Plus VR headset addresses feedback we received from thousands of VR ONE users. It also meets the demands of an evolving VR industry and new platforms for immersive and interactive VR, such as Google Daydream."

The ZEISS VR ONE Plus is designed with the same premium ergonomics, material quality and precision ZEISS optics as the original VR ONE headset. However, it includes several key changes to enhance the device's functionality, including a universal smartphone tray that works with any Android or iOS smartphone with a screen size between 4.7 and 5.5 inches. This includes both iPhone 6/6s and iPhone 6 Plus.

The VR ONE Plus also comes with a removable head strap that allows users to configure the device to their viewing needs dependent on application, along with a removable front faceplate and foam inserts that can easily be replaced after heavy usage.

Hall 3.1 / Booth D061: Hermosa Optics Inc.
For beginners in Virtual Reality, this company from Taiwan offers a low-cost Google cardboard-style viewer.

Hall 4.1 / Booth J005: I Like Electronics Co., Ltd..
A small video projector with LED lighting is shown, which comes with active shutter glasses (at 30 Hertz per eye).

Hall 4.2 / Booth D028: Zhongshan Nikow Precision Industrial Co., Ltd.
Two rather low-grade VR viewing devices are being offered under the Fotopro brand name.

Hall 5.2 / Booth F020: Kúla 3D Ltd.
Kúla Bebe 3D lens for smartphones ($79.00) and Kúla Deeper 3D lens ($179.00)

Hall 9.1 / Booth A047: Dermandar (Offshore) S.A.L.
This company from Lebanon is offering their software stereostitch, which allows stitching of 360 degree 3D Virtual Reality images. Several program versions are available - but only the high-end version, priced at $600, will do stereoscopic stitching. Currently only available for Apple Mac, a PC version will follow in the next few weeks.

Hall 9.1 / Booth A050/A054: I Zugar Studio
Based in Hong Kong, I Zugar displays various stereo-capable VR-rigs. They also offer a foldable viewer with very good optics.

Hall 9.1 / Booth B014/C015: HumanEyes Technologies, Ltd.
Under the Vuze brand name, this company from Israel offers a 360 degree 3D VR camera. With a stereo-base of about 55 mm, the camera captures 4K videos with 8 cameras.
