Various 3D-exhibits are to be found throughout the museum:

Level E2 (“Energy“ Section): Coal for electricity generation. 4 Stereo slide viewers with bleached-out stereo slides (Conveying Bridge, Conveyor Belt, Bucket Wheel, Coal Excavator)

Level E3 (“Alltag“ Section - “Does the Human Body Measure Up?“): Three-Dimensional portrayal of morphological details (measuring stereoscope “Oculus“ by Zeiss with micrometer, “Miroplast“ stereoscope with stereograph of an ear & Raumbild viewer with ear photograph by “Erbbiologische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wien“. Modern Wheatstone-type mirror-stereoscope with a photo of a human iris (based on work by Weninger, approx. 1932).

Level 4: “Turkish Chess-Player“. The “Turkish Chess-Player” is a modern virtual reproduction of the historical automaton. Visitors are be able to play chess against the Chess Turk, which is actually a stereoscopic back-projection. The user dons anaglyph glasses and bot the head and hand of the user are tracked to it is possible to interact with the virtual figure.

Level 4: Virtual Reality Theater. The virtual reality theatre allows visitors to dive into virtual worlds. The graphics computer produces every image twice. A pair of projectors then projects the images one on the top of the other, thus creating a three-dimensional illusion. Three pairs of projectors operate in synchronicity to produce a panorama image of three times twelve meters. On the curved screen, image segments fuse into an overall image that wraps around the field of vision of about 30 viewers. Light filtering spectacles and ambient sound on six channels create a virtual world in three dimensions.

A specially produced show describes a journey through the history of virtuality, starting from mysterious images of Paleolithic caves, to the frescoes of sacral buildings to modern motion pictures and a computer-generated visual world. Viewers may intervene in the action with laser rods. They may vary the course of the journey, bring digital objects to life, or change the virtual environment as a whole.

Level 4 (“Photography“ section): Heidoscop camera. Glass-case with stereo views and cameras (Taxiphote, Ernemann, Jumelle, wooden camera by Karl Fritsch [Wien], double-bellows camera by Haarstick [Düsseldorf], stereo daguerrotype camera with slide-bar [Wien, approx. 1850]. Digital viewing-box based on a Wheatstone-style mirror stereoscope, with two flat LCD panels [unfortunately, identical left and right eye views are shown, so the result is flat].

In a separate (dimly lit) room (“Lichtbild“), old portraits are shown. Among them 4 stereo daguerrotypes in viewer cases by Roskine, K.K. Hof, Drechsler & Optious [Wien, Kärntnerstr. No. 1074].

The visitors at Minimundus Lake Constance are enchanted by the miniature buildings and amazed by the new age 4D movie theatre created by Kraftwerk Living Technologies.

Speeding through the Escher buildings wind will gently blow in your face and your seat will move mirroring the ride’s path enabling you to feel and experience the movie more vividly than ever before. Additional effects like air blasts and water mists intensify this 3D movie by Wenneke Multimedia.

The Bavaria Filmstadt, located south of Munich, is one of the largest and most famous film and TV studios in Europe. During a 90-minute tour of the 320,000 m2 Filmstadt not only do our friendly staff let guests in on the exciting details of sensational film shoots but also present the locations for popular TV hits and accompany them along lavish street sets. Here guests can find out everything about small and large-scale cinema and TV films including the popular soap Marienhof, The Neverending Story and Das Boot (The Boat). It is even possible for visitors to test their acting talent live in front of a camera on the original set from Bully Herbig’s new Film Raumschiff Surprise-Periode 1 (Spaceship Surprise-Period 1). And in a replica outside broadcast van visitors can experience the exciting work that goes on behind the scenes of a live broadcast.

In the 4D Cinema Experience (4D Erlebnis Kino), the ultimate in cinema technology from the USA, guests can enjoy recent computer-animated thrillers (currently showing “Haunted Mine”/”Geistermine”). High-resolution digital stereo projection and state-of-the-art IOSONO sound technology, the first in the world, ensure that guests feel as if they are in the middle of the film. A trip in the Cinema Experience is almost like a roller coaster ride, only much less dangerous!

Comments Beginning in April 2003, visitors of Germany´s largest theme park will have the chance to travel into the 4th dimension. The new 448-seat 4-D theater, opening at the beginning of the 2003 season in the French themed area, will be a spectacular attraction for the whole family.

Equipped with surround-sound and a gigantic screen measuring 19 x 9 meters, the "Magic Cinema 4D" will provide visitors with a different view of the Earth and its wildlife. In the film "Panda Vision", visitors will meet a panda daydreaming of a better world. They will dive into the dream, encounter other animals and go on a wonderful expedition through the marvels of our Earth. The sea turtle will take the visitors into the depths of the ocean with its colourful reefs and the diverse flora and fauna. Children as well as adults will be thrilled by the little monkey that romps around the treetops of the jungle, swinging from branch to branch. Also the clear and icy landscape of the Antarctica with its jolly penguins and clumsy polar bears will fascinate everybody – in "Panda Vision" the visitors will surely be enchanted by the animal world and nature of our Earth.

In cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Germany), the world’s biggest nature conservation organization, Europa-Park presents a fantastic voyage in 4-D through the natural wonders of our planet - colorful, memorable and full of surprises. With the help of advanced computer animation animals and landscapes, which "surround" the visitors and take them into another reality, have been created. The awareness of our environment is being improved by presenting it as something fascinating and great, but also showing that it is vulnerable and can be easily destroyed. A unique and breathtaking experience - welcome to the Fourth Dimension!

This high-tech museum, housed in a former factory, has interactive displays showing the history of Greece from ancient to modern times, a cafe, an Internet cafe, and museum shop. There's usually an English-speaking guide on duty, but if you call ahead, you can make sure that one is available (and that there are not lots of school groups visiting when you want to come).

At "Hellenic Cosmos", the VR Sector offers a whole variety of engaging interactive experiences for the visitor to discover, learn about and explore.

In the two innovative systems "Kivotos" and the "Magic Screen" , visitors wear special stereoscopic glasses and use a navigational device in order to experience the landscape, architecture, and culture of ancient Greece in an extraordinary new way. With the help of highly advanced 3D technology, the stunning virtual reality installations let visitors take virtual tours through detailed reconstruction of heritage sites, enabling them to explore in a way never achieved before.

Comments

The Hunterian Museum is based on the private collection of the anatomist and surgeon John Hunter (1728-1793). Hunter was one of the most important of the private teachers of anatomy and surgery in London in the late 18th century. His museum collection provides a remarkable record of his work, covering subjects as diverse as the treatment of gunshot wounds, the transplantation of human teeth and the life cycle of bees. The museum also contains paintings and drawings.

In the upper level of the exhibition, there are two wall-mounted stereoscopes with 3D-slides of early plastic surgery. Some slides, however, are pseudoscopic.
