Deluxe Metal Frame Aviator style glasses with Red and CYAN lenses designed especially for color anaglyph viewing (such as the 3-D section of the "Sports Illustrated 2000 Swimsuit Issue" of May 2000). Because the lenses are lighter in color than in our No. 7026 3-D glasses, images that have strong parallax or contrast may ghost more than with the darker colored filters. Therefore these are not for all anaglyph viewing. However, when the image is full color, or the parallax is not too great, these offer superior viewing. | Q: When did anaglyph imaging begin? | A: The principle of anaglyph presentation of 3-D images was first proposed in 1853 by Rollmann, but adapted to practical use by Ducos du Hauron in France in 1891. |
| Q: How do anaglyph images work? | A: They are based on the principle
that when you look at a printed or projected color through a filter of
the same color that that color essentially disappears. For example,
a circle printed in red on a white background disappears when viewed through
a red filter. Conversely, when the same color (red) is viewed through a
complementary or opposite color (green or blue in this case) the printing
will appear to be dark, or nearly black.
By printing the right eye image in red ink, and the left eye image superimposed upon it in blue ink, a 3-D image is seen when viewed through matching colored 3-D glasses. In this case the glasses would have to have a green or blue lens over the right eye, and a red lens over the left eye. |
