Reptile : Unique 3-D Color Photography That You Can Really See (Eyewitness)
by John A. Burton
This
tall, narrow hardcover book comes complete with a plastic-framed mirror.
Open the book, rotate it 90 degrees, and place the mirror in a slot: suddenly
you can see straight down the gaping, ravenous, downright alarmingly three-dimensional
gullet of an alligator snapping turtle. Gulp. The text, which is likely
to be ignored until young readers are tired of going squinty-eyed over
the pictures, gives an excellent and well-illustrated introduction to the
world of caimans, skinks, snakes, and salamanders--with much emphasis on
their voracious guzzling of creatures unfortunate enough to be further
down the food chain. There's also a clear explanation of the 3D-effect
-- and, although the book doesn't mention it, nobody should miss the spooky
thing that happens when you try to touch the fingertips of your right and
left hands at the mirror.
No need for special eyeglasses! These amazing
objects, invisible to the naked eye and photographed by a special process,
can be seen "in the round"--like magic--with a mirror viewer supplied with
each title. Full color.

Infinite
Perspectives : Two Thousand Years of Three-Dimensional Mapmaking
by Brian M. Ambroziak, Jeffrey R. Ambroziak
Those
who are expecting just another coffee-table book with a few magnificent
photographs, are in for a most pleasant surprise.
From the first page, this work brilliantly
illuminates mans' struggle to comprehend the subtleties of his world. Some
of the most elegant illustrations depict the fantastically abstract manner
that various cultures have used to navigate the sea and to map the ground.
Of course, the real intrigue of this book derives from the extraordinary
three-dimensional photographs that the authors produced and liberally provided--from
San Francisco to the Grand Canyon and on to Mars.
For
those who trudge through concrete and steel all too often, the Ambroziaks
have provided welcome repose with a new lens on creation and all of its
grandeur.

The
Bubble (Region 1 Encoding)
This
was originally released in 1966 at 112 mins in Spacevision 3-D, which made
use of the polarized system and clear grey glasses. In 1976, a shorter
version running 91 mins was released widely under the title "Fantastic
Invasion of Planet Earth." Theoriginal polarized version had incredible
3-D, but this is a "downconverted" anaglyph version which uses the red
and vlue type of glasses. The effect is not nearly as good, but it does
work significantly better than Rhino's "Comin at Ya" DVD. The film is kind
of slow and it has been compared to an overlong episode of "The Twilight
Zone" which is an accurate description. It does manage to hold some interest
for sci-fi fans, however.

Day
of Reckoning : The Stereoscope (Blackstone Chronicles, Part 5)
by John Saul
When
attorney Ed Becker spots the carved antique dresser in a dusty attic, he
takes it to restore. Then his young daughter, Amy, makes a curious discovery:
Inside one of the drawers she finds a set of old pictures and a stereoscope,
an old-fashioned device that allows you to see images in three dimensions.
Oddly, one of the photos resembles their house, where Eds grandmother lived
long ago. But the scenes inside the stereoscope also bring to vivid life
some terrifying memories, eerie images that seem all too real ...
