    The
      Bubble (Region 1 Encoding)
       This
was originally released in 1966 at 112 mins in Spacevision 3-D, which
made use of the polarized system and clear grey glasses. In 1976, a shorter
version running 91 mins was released widely under the title "Fantastic
Invasion of Planet Earth." Theoriginal polarized version had incredible
3-D, but this is a "downconverted" anaglyph version which uses the red
and vlue type of glasses. The effect is not nearly as good, but it does
work significantly better than Rhino's "Comin at Ya" DVD. The film is
kind of slow and it has been compared to an overlong episode of "The Twilight
Zone" which is an accurate description. It does manage to hold some interest
        for sci-fi fans, however.

  Creature From The Black Lagoon
In this trend-setting classic, a scientific expedition ventures into the
upper reaches of the Amazon and discovers a "Gill Man," a living amphibious
missing link. The scientists drug and capture the creature, who enamored
with the head scientist's female assistant (Julia Adams). But the lonely
creature escapes and kidnaps the object of his affection while she swims
seductively in his watery home. The chief scientist (Richard Carlson)
launches a crusade to retrieve his assistant and casts the creature from
the black to the black depths from which he came from. Well-acted and
directed, and with Bud Westmore's brilliantly designed monster, Creature
From The Black Lagoon is an enduring tribute to the imaginative genius
        of it's Hollywood creators.
       Revenge Of The Creature
The Creature From the Black Lagoon "resurfaces" when he is captured in
his Amazonian hom by a team of researchers and transported to a holding
tank in a Florida marine park. Once imprisoned, the "Gill Man" becomes
the subject of crude and cruel experiments conducted by his supposedly
superior human captors. But the tormented creature begins to emerge as
a hauntingly beatiful alien, and a female researcher (Lori Nelson) forms
an uneasy emotional link with him, as her own doubts about career vs.
motherhood parallel the Creature's feelings of alienation and confinement.
Soon they are both driven to break free of their respective "prisons"
with exciting results. Revenge of the Creature is full of surprises, not
the least of which is Clint Eastwood in his first screen appearance as
a technician who has trouble holding onto a laboratory mouse.
       The Creature Walks Among Us

This was the last film in the
        "Creature" trilogy, not in 3D.
Two of these are the 2D video
        versions of 3D-movies!!!

        The dinosaur animation is rudimentary
(nothing like 'Jurassic Park' or 'Walking With Dinosaurs') and the video
quality variable. Mainly useful as a demonstration of the Pulfrich effect
(darker images take longer to reach the brain): the 3D sequences are quite
        successful.

    Kiss
Me Kate (VHS Video, NTSC) (2D)
       Cole
Porter, Shakespeare, and 3-D: Not the usual recipe for an MGM musical,
but hey--it works. Although it runs hot and cold, this 1953 take on Porter's
delightful Broadway smash lets a chewy cast gorge on some terrific songs
and show-biz in-jokes. Think of the plot as His Girl Friday in greasepaint:
vain star Howard Keel wants to lure ex-wife Kathryn Grayson back to the
boards with a musical version of The Taming of the Shrew. The movie's
weakness is too much Shakespeare, not enough backstage backbiting (and
why are two of the best numbers, "So in Love" and Ann Miller's zippy "Too
Darn Hot," confined to a prologue?). Then there's the tendency to throw
things at the camera--3-D, what hath you wrought? The candy-store color
design is great fun, and Tommy Rall and future dance titan Bob Fosse are
turned loose for some sensational leaps. Now that's "Wunderbar." Originally

"Always True to You in My Fashion'', "Brush Up Your Shakespeare'' (delightfully

Fosse and Carol Haney, is outstanding. Originally in 3D.

    Mark
      Twain's America in 3D  (Region 1 Encoding)
       Using
IMAX. 3-D and conventional IMAX 2-D to provide a whole new way of looking
at our past, Stephen Low's large format film "MARK TWAIN'S AMERICA" interweaves
the life and times of Mark Twain with the lives of current day enthusiasts
who revel in the inventions and way of life of the 19th century. Utilizing
archival stereo-optic photos from The University of California-Riverside/California
Museum of Photography, powerful images from the past seemingly come alive
in a larger-than-life presentation that takes full advantage of the large
screen format. Archival photos representative of Twain and what he saw
and experienced in his time are juxtaposed against scenes of actual present
        day recreations of that era.

 Narrated by Anne Bancroft,
we find that Twain lived during an exciting period of great social, political
and technological change and his life was greatly shaped by many of these
developments. Amongst them was the invention of the steam engine and the
effects it had on the world. Sharing in their pursuit of this time gone
by, we visit with a steamtrain engineer, Mike Tackett, who rides across
the western frontier with his nin year-old son in tow and a life-long
steamboat enthusiast, Captain Denis Trone, who like Twain steers up the
mighty Mississippi in a steamboat that he built himself.
       Twain initially set out on
his successful writing career at a young age as a printer's apprentice
in Hannibal, Missouri. However, it was his boyhood dream to pilot a steamboat
and he worked the river until the Civil War stopped all boat traffic on
the Mississippi. Twain joined the Confederate Army briefly before he decided
to seek his fortunes in the silver mines of the American west. In further
exploring this dramatic time, we see how every year in Antietam Maryland,
15,000 men and women passionately re-enact one of the Civil War's most
famous battle scenes. In Montreal, the descendants of slaves who escaped
to Canada perform in a gospel choir singing songs reminiscent of African
folk songs sung by their ancestors during the Civil War.
       Known for the classic novels
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, Twain's
humorous writings developed from his observations of small town life as
well as his travels around the world. In his hometown of Hannibal, Missouri,
a Fourth of July Parade pays tribute to many classic scenes from his novels
by holding contests for the best "Tom & Becky look-a-likes" and the best
"fence-painting." In Virginia City, Nevada, modern day cowboys enjoy a
live guitar-strumming quartet in a saloon that also was frequented by
Twain in his day. Young couples of today sway to the two-step as a brass
band plays on authentic 19th century instruments, in an old-fashioned
        ballroom dance of yesterday.
       Spanning two centuries, "MARK
TWAIN'S AMERICA" presents one of the most dynamic on-screen chronicles
of the human experience. Twain enjoyed enormous success but also experienced
great failures and tragedy. He incurred a large debt as the result of
investments in failed patents and suffered the loss of almost his entire
family, with the deaths of his wife, his son and two of his three daughters.
"MARK TWAIN'S AMERICA" contrasts the complexity of the human spirit and
the wonders of the world in which we live, that have remained constant
over time, from the 19th century to today.

     Transitions 3D (Region 1 Encoding) (Field-Sequential 3D)
Developed by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), the artistically-inspired and technologically-innovative film TRANSITIONS was produced as the first ever IMAX 3D movie for the Canadian Pavilion at Vancouver's EXPO '86 and is now known as the ancestor of three-dimensional entertainment as we know it.

The film highlights a century of incredible advances in transportation and communication. The excitement of conquering great distances, the satisfaction of overcoming isolation for people in a vast land and the growth of commerce are shown at their best while celebrating the art and technology of cinema, skilfully interweaving incredible 3D effects, helicopter logging and a charming 3D teddy bear parade. Some of the bonus features include director Colin Low's unique insight into the challenges of shooting a three dimensional movie and original storyboard sketches.

    T-Rex
      - Back to the Cretaceous  (Region 1 Encoding) (2D)
       Did
you ever want to get so close to a mama tyrannosaur that you could pat
her scaly reptilian snout? Now you'll know what that's like, thanks to
aspiring paleontologist Ally Hayden (Liz Stauber), the teenage heroine
of the 1998 IMAX film T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous. Ally's dino-expert
father (Peter Horton) has just returned from his latest dig with a fossilized
        T. rex egg, and when Ally accidentally cracks the egg in her dad's museum
laboratory, a puff of mysterious smoke catapults her back to the Cretaceous
period, when dinosaurs-- especially T. rex--ruled the Earth. With her
imagination in full flight (along with an astonishingly realistic pterodactyl),
Ally confirms the dinosaur theories of her own speculative research, and
she also encounters pioneering dinosaur illustrator Charles Knight (Tuck
Milligan) and legendary paleontologist Barnum Brown (Laurie Murdoch).
Best of all, she comes face to face with a maternal tyrannosaur, earning
its respect by protecting one of its incubating eggs.

 T-Rex won't be as effective
on DVD (where the IMAX 3-D effects are amusingly pointless), but it's
guaranteed to please anyone who enjoyed the similarly astounding CGI effects
of Walking with Dinosaurs. Stauber is a refreshingly normal teen star,
and although much of the dialogue sounds like it was cribbed from a grade-school
science text, its educational value is perfectly matched to the wonders
of Ally's prehistoric adventure. Director Brett Leonard previously helmed
the pioneering FX flick The Lawnmower Man, and here he demonstrates a
warmer, more accessible sense of wonder for kids and parents alike. At
45 minutes, this IMAX dazzler never wears out its welcome.
